The Cook Islands consist of 15 islands scattered over 850,000 square miles of the pacific, close to the center of the Polynesian triangle. Rarotonga is the largest of the Cook Islands and offers a Mecca for rest and relaxation.
One of the best tropical destinations the world is starting to discover, offering the traveler a small, accessible country with distinctive warmth and hospitality. CLIMATE:
The Cook Islands has a pleasantly even climate year round, with no excesses of temperature or humidity, although it can rain quite often. The best times of year to visit are around September and October, when there's a nice trade-off between warm temperatures and reduced humidity; March and April are also good months to come, as the cyclone season has passed and the skies are likely to be clear and sunny.
Temperatures range between 23 (min) ands 29 (max) October - May and 18 (min) and 26 (max) July - September.
LANGUAGE:
English is spoken everywhere, however Cook Islands Maori is the official language.
LOCAL CUSTOMS:
Displays of drama and dance are of high quality with participation that will bring the visitor close to the Polynesian identity. Both modern and traditional handicrafts, clothing, carvings from wood and teh famous Cook Island black pearls are readily available.

Departure tax is NZD$30 for adults & NZD$15 for children 2-11 years.

Australian-style plug with two flat angled blades and one vertical grounding blade.
TIME ZONE:
The Cook islands are 20 hours behind Australian EST. Lying just to the west of the international date line. Travllers from Australia to the Cook islands pick up a day on arrival.
DRIVING & TRANSPORT:
Driving is on the left hand side and all scooter drivers are required to purchase a current cook islands drivers license, available from the local police station (approx $10) Buses are efficient and inexpensive. There is an excellent Raro by night bus for getting around the island to the restaurants, bars & nightspots.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
It is immigration policy that all arrivals must have pre booked accommodation. All vistors must have a current passport which is valid for at least 6 months after entry into the Cook Islands. An entry permit is not required providing travellers do not intend to stay more then 31 days.
