LOCATION
A 50 minute (35km) luxury launch journey will take you from Male’s airport to the One&Only Maldives at Reethi Rah which boasts an extraordinary 6kms of pristine coastline.

ACCOMMODATION
The 130 villas are discreetly placed midst beautiful landscaping and with each occupying its own secluded piece of sand-strewn beach (or private decking over crystal clear waters). With high ceilings, these are amongst the largest villas in the Maldives, each no less than 135sqm and with generous outdoor areas including stretches of beach, private decking and private swimming pools. All air-conditioned villas have a wide-screen plasma TV, CD/DVD player, surround sound theatre system, fully stocked beverage cabinet, smoke alarms, sun beds, room safe, oversized bathroom with large soaking tub and dressing room. Extensive in-villa dining is available and the resort stocks a library of books, CDs and DVDs for use by guests. Not much larger on the map than a few ink splashes by a busy cartographer, the Maldive Islands stretch from the south western tip of India all the way to the Equator. One of the most attenuated countries in the world, the 1,196 islands, in 26 distinct coral atolls, are spread over a total area of 90,000 square kilometres (about 36,000 square miles) of the Indian Ocean, yet less than 0.5 percent of this is land. Some 200 of the islands are inhabited.

Until the arrival of tourism, fishing was the main occupation in this nation of seafarers, and the relaxed pace of life seems to have carried over into the twentieth century. The graceful sailing dhonis (small craft) of old may have given way to motorised versions, but fishing with pole and line is still a common site throughout the islands.
