Amanusa Indonesia
Description:
Views run from the adjacent Indian Ocean shoreline to sacred Mount Agung that dominates the far horizon on a clear day.
The entrance to the lobby is a colonnaded open-air hall lined with baskets of white tuberoses. Framing the foyer is a teak sculpture illustrating scenes from the Ramayana, one of the two great epic poems of India.

Amanusa Suite: The Amanusa Suite enjoys a private swimming pool and the most privileged views of the Ocean.
FOOD AND DINING
The Terrace offers sweeping views of Bali, embracing the golf course, the Indian Ocean, Nusa Dua and the Bukit, which is Bali’s southern peninsula. During the day it is open for breakfast and lunch, serving a variety of Asian and Continental dishes, while in the evenings it offers a range of Indonesian and Thai dishes. Just below, the Restaurant specialises in Italian cuisine, which is served in an elegant room with high ceilings or in the outdoor courtyard surrounded by flowering frangipani trees which overlook the pool.
FACILITIES
The Beach Club: This is located on the beachfront of the Bali Golf and Country Club. The Club consists of ten bales, each with two sun loungers. Refreshments, light meals, showers and washrooms are provided. The sand beach is one of Bali's best and is fringed by a coral reef. Snorkelling equipment and kayaks are available. The Beach Club is also the setting for candlelit barbecues, and sunrise breakfasts can be enjoyed in the privacy of the bales.
Swimming Pool: The large 30m blue pool is bordered by a bougainvillea-covered trellis, flowering frangipani trees and a high paras-stone wall.
Library: The library specialises in books on Indonesian art and culture and also offers an extensive CD and VCD selection. A laptop computer is available for e-mail and Internet access.
Boutique and Gallery: Balinese and Indonesian craft and antiques as well as other gift items are available.
Tennis: Amanusa's two, all-weather tennis courts are floodlit for evening play. Attendants are available as playing partners or ball boys. A bale is located between the courts for shady breaks of iced chrysanthemum tea and refreshments.
Massage and Beauty Treatments: Amanusa's resident masseuses mix traditional Balinese massage with Swedish massage and acupressure. Massage is available in the privacy of your suite, in the specially-designated massage suite or on one of the Beach bales. Body treatments as well as facials, pedicures and manicures are also available. Amanusa's reiki master is on hand to redress any energy imbalances and a reflexologist is available once a week.
Meetings and Special Events: The resort has meeting facilities for up to 30 people and is a special venue for occasions like weddings, birthdays and family reunions. Amanusa's boardroom is two rooms in one: a conference facility for informal meetings and a reception area for coffee breaks and cocktails. Facilities include direct lines for fax and telephone, a video and laser-disc system, satellite TV and a computer link to the projector and the big screen. For guests wanting a deeper insight into Balinese life and culture, Amanusa will arrange seminars or presentations.
Sporting Events: Amanusa arranges corporate tennis or golf tournaments.
Broadband: Wireless broadband connections are available in all resort accommodations and public areas.
GOLF
Bali's three golf courses are as diverse as the island itself. Amanusa offers guests complimentary use of its golf clubs.
The Bali Golf and Country Club, recently recognised as one of Asia's top five courses, lies immediately adjacent to Amanusa. Designed by Robin Nelson and Rodney Wright, the championship, 18-hole course enjoys a scenic, seaside setting. Amanusa guests enjoy a priority reservation system at the Bali Golf and Country Club and may sign all charges to their Amanusa account. Club facilities include a driving range, putting and chipping greens, pro shop, restaurant, bar and swimming pool.
The Nirwana Bali Golf Club, an hour's drive from Amanusa, is located in the Tabanan Regency, on the island's west coast. Former British Open champion Greg Norman designed this championship course. Offering one of Asia's most visually arresting settings, the Nirwana Bali Golf Club plays through rice paddies, tropical forest, gardens and creeks.
The Bali Handara Country Club. Acclaimed as one of the world's most beautiful golf courses the club is an hour-and-a-half from Amanusa. Designed by Peter Thomson and Graham Wolveridge, the course is set in an extinct volcano. The championship course's 18 holes lie amid lush green mountain slopes and rainforest.
CYCLING AND TOURING
Nusa Dua is ideal for relaxed cycling tours on an Amanusa bicycle. Village and mountain cycling excursions can also be arranged for the more adventurous. A visit to the ancient Luhur Uluwatu temple, an easy drive from Amanusa, is among the resort's many popular excursions. One of Bali's sad kahyangan – the six temples of the heavens – Luhur Uluwatu is perched high above the sea on an enormous limestone outcropping. Amanusa drivers and guides are available to escort guests on these and other personalised tours.
ISLAND CRUSING
Just 20km offshore and visible from Amanusa, are the islands of Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan. There are a variety of craft, including a luxury catamaran that can be chartered to visit Nusa Lembongan, which is the more secluded of the two islands. This full-day excursion might include a lunchtime barbecue, exploration of the beach and beach volleyball.
SURFING
The Nusa Dua reef is one of the premier reef breaks in Bali and is visible from the Terrace. The surfing season runs from December to April and equipment and instruction can be arranged on arrival.
OTHER ACTIVITIES
Cooking Tours and Classes: The day starts with an early morning trip to the local vegetable and fish markets where guests can choose ingredients. Next, the cooking class takes a detour through the Jenggala glass and ceramic factory and then to see some coffee being roasted. Back at Amanusa, guests are shown how to cook their favourite Indonesian dishes. Participants get to enjoy their creations over lunch.
Shopping: The beach strips and streets of Kuta, Legian, Seminyak and Sanur are packed with restaurants, bars, antiques, handicrafts and souvenir shops. Denpasar, Bali's capital and commercial centre which has a major market and museum as well as antique shops and boutiques, is also easily reached from Amanusa.

Location:
If you measure success in room numbers, Amanresorts hasn't achieved all that much. We have never focused on being the biggest. We prefer to think small. Intimate. Involving. It's not that we are better than big hotels because we are small. We are different, that's all. Amanresorts responds to a contemporary lifestyle. That's what we offer – a lifestyle experience, without limitations.
There are people with a shared lifestyle the world over. Whether in Europe, Asia, the Americas, they have one thing in common, something that brings them to Amanresorts.
That 'lifestyle' is about shared values, a lust for faraway cultures, for the world around that excites, shapes and nourishes. It is an appetite for pampering and a deep appreciation of the creative and elegant – the way an Aman responds to the environment, the way light falls on the table or water fills a pool.
Each of our resorts is quite different in location, look, mood and guest experience. Yet each leaves an impression, an indelible mark. At Amanresorts we have discovered there is an alternate path. That it is possible to build environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing resorts. That small is good for business as well as guests. That less is more.
We do not believe we are perfect. The perfect resort has never been built, nor will it. To paraphrase Gandhi, "Many ideas never get started because of the fear that they cannot be achieved."
Says founder Adrian Zecha, "I would like to express my admiration for and heartfelt thanks to our staff – our chambermaids, drivers, cooks, cleaners, gardeners and guides. Most have been with us since the beginning. In the end, performing their invaluable small roles, pleasing you, they are the true Amanresorts."
We continue to relish the exploration of new directions. Come journey with us.
There are five distinct Amanresorts to experience in Indonesia. Each resort offers a complete experience and a unique window onto its own special location and area. Amanresorts makes the travel experience in Bali effortless. An Aman travel bag is available for short trips between resorts. Amanresorts managers will store or move your luggage on, as you like, arranging transfers and forwarding your accounts from resort to resort. Transfers between the three Bali resorts also offer the possibility of island adventure. Simply build in a half-day or full-day tour on your way from one Amanresort to another.
