This tour is escorted from Perth and will include airport transfers in Darwin/Adelaide. East coast passengers will travel from your nearest capital and meet the group in Darwin.

    Perth passengers – Meet your Tour Host, at Perth airport for your flight to Darwin. Please bring your luggage strap to the airport, it will make spotting your luggage in Darwin much easier. Upon arrival a transfer will be waiting to take you to The Hilton Darwin for a two night stay.

    East Coast passengers – on arrival into Darwin, make your own way to The Hilton Darwin to meet your tour host.

    This evening enjoy a 3 course meal with a 3 hour drinks package at the renowned Pee Wee’s at the Point on Darwin’s spectacular waterfront. It’s idyllic waterfront location offers magnificent views across Fannie Bay and Mindil beach, and at dusk, the twinkling lights of Darwin city’s skyline will appear as if by magic in the distance.

    After breakfast this morning you will be off on a half day tour of Darwin. Setting off from the hotel in the morning, get up close and personal on a wonderful sightseeing tour. With its laid-back vibe and beautiful tropical landscape, this tour is a fantastic way to see the cultural, historical and interesting areas of the city. This tour includes attractions such as the Chinese Temple, Botanic Gardens, Darwin Waterfront, NT Museum and Art Gallery and much more. Returning to the hotel mid-afternoon, the rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

    After breakfast, you will be transferred from your hotel to Darwin’s Train Station. Your 4 day/3 night Expedition Rail Journey aboard the legendary Ghan begins. Friendly staff will lead you through corridors to your comfortable private cabin where you can take your time settling in and exploring the amenities as the view outside your window begins its smooth and spectacular transformation. With all-inclusive dining included on board, you will be able to enjoy lunch at the Queen Adelaide Restaurant as you sit back and wind through the countryside to Katherine. Your first included off-train excursion begins in Katherine where you will visit the magnificent and spiritual Nitmiluk Gorge. Enjoy a leisurely cruise on the idyllic Katherine River, gazing in awe at the towering sandstone cliffs, learning about the Aboriginal and geological history of the area. Take time to soak up the ancient beauty and inspiring silence of one of the world’s untainted natural wonders.     Wake up to a new view outside your window as your journey venture into Alice Springs. After breakfast you will be off on another off-train excursion taking in the delights of this famous outback town. A full day in Alice Springs gives you ample opportunity to visit the town landmarks, get up close and personal with Australia’s incredible flora and fauna or explore the Alice at your own leisure. This evening you will be dining beneath a canopy of stars at an authentic Outback Bush Barbecue set in a strikingly lit quarry.

    This is a truly unique experience with live Australiana music and a feast of mouthwatering steak and traditionally made damper.

    After dessert, cast your eyes skyward and ponder life, the universe and everything with an informative astronomical talk.

    After breakfast this morning you’ll wake up and rub your eyes with disbelief as we pull into the middle-of-nowhere at a stop at Manguri. Here, a friendly tour guide awaits ready to whisk you away for the day. Your destination – the sun-scorched opal mining capital of world, Coober Pedy, where more than half of the residents live underground.

    Venture into the tunnels and caves of this underground town, where you may even catch opal fever as you mine for riches, visit the otherworldly underground Serbian Orthodox church and take a glimpse of Umoona Opal Mine. Below the earth’s surface, you’ll enjoy a gourmet lunch in the most unique of locations before setting off to the stunning outback moonscape that is the Breakaways.

    After an eye-opening action-packed day – if you haven’t chosen to stay and find your fortune – it’s back on board with plenty of time to ease into a slower gear and prepare yourself for your final evening onboard The Ghan.

    Here you will spend 2 nights’ at the 5 Star Stamford Plaza Adelaide. This afternoon you will set off on an Adelaide City Highlights Tour. Experience the cosmopolitan life of Adelaide on this half day tour, taking in Adelaide’s main attractions. The coastal city of Adelaide is noted for its many festivals, its food, wine and culture and for its long beach fronts.     This morning after breakfast you will embark on a full day tour. Explore the vast and natural beauty that is the River Murray. The Captain Proud Paddle Boat boasts a fully decked out period styled dining area and bar. Enjoy a fine meal and a drink to wash it down with as you cruise slowly past majestic scenery.  Experience the wildlife of the River Murray in all its untamed natural beauty. Cruise past the points of interest that you can only really see from the river. See the wonderful scenery as you take in the fresh air on the deck outside the dining room. Learn of the wonderful history of the area as you relax in comfort. After the cruise we will make a stop in historic Hahndorf where you can browse the incredible range of shops before afternoon tea at Hahndorf Inn.
