  8. 01-May-18 Chobe National Park

The Chobe National Park in Botswana is only a 1 3/4 hour drive from Livingstone. It is one of the greatest game reserves in Southern Africa and famous for the amount of elephant that live there. The Chobe River flows lazily through the Caprivi flood plains and provides a haven for huge herds of buffalo and elephant, zebra, wildebeest and impala which are followed closely by predators including lion, hyena, the elusive leopard and the odd pack of the now rare wild dog. The bird life in particular is exceptional.
Travelling to Chobe includes an exciting crossing by boat of the Zambezi River at the point where the 4 countries of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia meet. The Safari starts with a morning gameviewing cruise on the Chobe River with tea, coffee, drinks and snacks being served on board. Large flocks of birds, big pods of hippos and very large crocodiles are all around. After disembarking, lunch is then taken at the Chobe Safari Lodge, which overlooks the Chobe River and the plains beyond. In the afternoon, open safari vehicles are used for a game drive into the park.
The game drive meanders its way back to Customs and Immigration, before crossing the Zambezi and then transferring to Livingstone. Chobe Day trips begins at approx 07:00am with a transfer from your hotel. Return is 6:30pm.

  9. 02-May-18 Livingstone to Cape Town

Transfer back to Livingstone Airport for your flight to Cape Town. Once you’re in Cape Town, you’ll again be transferred to your hotel.

  10. 03-May-18 Half Day Table Mountain & City Tour

Your drive through the city centre takes you past famous landmarks such as the Castle of Good Hope built in 1666 by the Dutch East India Company and City Hall, a baroque building, and the Grand Parade. As you follow the city’s main thoroughfare, Adderley Street, you will see St. George’s Cathedral, the Anglican Diocese of Nobel Peace Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu. You will pass the Company Gardens and the Malay Quarter (also known as the Bo-Kaap) which means ‘Above Cape’ because of its location up against the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malay’s, settled here.
The route then leads you to Kloof Nek and the magnificent Table Mountain. You’ll ascend to the top (weather permitting) by the revolving cable car. Here, you’ll see wild flowers and the famous silver tree and marvel at a birds-eye view of the city and its beaches. On a clear day it is even possible to see Robben Island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned on one side and Cape Point on the other. Descend from the Upper Cableway station to your awaiting vehicle and then proceed around Table Bay to the Milnerton area (time permitting). From here you can see Table Mountain from the same perspective as the early settlers did when they sailed into Table Bay.
The tour ends with a drop off back to your hotel at approximately 12:30pm.

  11. 04-May-18 Half Day Winelands Tour

This enchanting excursion begins with a tour through historic Stellenbosch, an architectural jewel that serves as the historic heart of the country’s wine region. A gracious blend of 18th century Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian buildings is evident as we drive down Dorp Street, where massive Oaks still shade original water furrows, then enjoy a wine tasting in the Stellenbosch area. A second wine tasting will be included (time permitting) before returning to Cape Town where you tour ends at approximately 5.00pm.

  12. 05-May-18 Robben Island Tour

This tour does not include a pick up from your hotel. Please proceed to Nelson Mandela Gateway at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront 30 minutes prior to departure. For nearly 400 years, Robben Island, 12 kilometres from Cape Town, was a place of banishment, exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded as political troublemakers, social outcasts and the unwanted of society. During the apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. The duty of those who ran the Island and its prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale.
Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beliefs. Those imprisoned on the island succeeded on a psychological and political level in turning a prison ‘hell-hole’ into a symbol of freedom and personal liberation. Robben Island came to symbolise, not only for South Africa and the African continent, but also for the entire world, the triumph of the human spirit over enormous hardsip and adversity.
The standard tour to Robben Island is approximately 3.5 hours including the two half hour ferry rides.
Today ends with a transfer to Cape Town airport and your flight to Johannesburg

  13. 06-May-18 Half Day Soweto & Apartheid Museum Tour

Soweto is an urban area of the city of Johannesburg, bordering the city’s mining belt in the south. Its name, an English syllabic abbreviation for South Western Townships, refers to its orgins as a black township under South Africa’s Apartheid government. The population has historically been overwhelmingly black and some of the watershed events in the struggle against Apartheid occurred in this township. On this tour you will discover Soweto and the surrounding area, driving past a hostel in Diepkloof, the well known Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Orlando Power Station, Winnie & Nelson Mandela’s old house (entrance fees not included), Desmond Tutu’s house, the Hector Peterson Memorial (entrance fees included), a quick stop at a well known restaurant, a shebeen, the Regina Mundi Church, Maponya Shopping Mall, Kliptown, Walter Sisulu Freedom Square and Aldorado Park. Afterwards you will head towards the Apartheid Museum. Once there you will have the opportunity to discover the history on your own. If you proceed at a reasonable pace you should be able to view and engage with the permanent exhibition in 2 hours. The museum also has an ongoing programme of temporary exhibitions, so add an extra 15 minutes to your visit for this.

  14. 07-May-18 Full Day Sun City & Pilansberg Nature Reserve

Travel to Pilanesberg Game Reserve. This area of 575 square km is home to most southern African species as well as to the Big 5, namely lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard. Enjoy a game drive in your closed vehicle, seeking out the Big 5 and various plains game and bird life. After this take a guided tour of the famous Sun City Resort. Travel back to Johannesburg through the Crocodile Ramble and visit the popular Chameleon Village near Hartbeespoort Dam (time permitting). Finally, transfer to Johannesburg airport for your flight back to Australia.
